What is Far Infrared (FIR) and How Does it Work?

This light is remarkable in its effects on the body because it has an energising and rebalancing effect at a cellular level. By correcting and enhancing cell function it can enhance digestive function by improving absorption, muscle tone and increasing the efficiency of the transformation of food into energy and materials for body repair and recovery. It can gently regulate body temperature and by improving circulation can help problems as varied as period pain, peripheral neuropathy and side effects of conditions including diabetes.

Far Infrared Therapy (FIR) uses rays of light, not visible to the naked eye. As these harmless, natural rays reach into the body they stimulate special molecules called chromophores in the cells. This energises the body and drive cells to detoxify, repair and heal.

Medical application of FIR dates back at least 3,000 years to the application of heat using moxibustion which involves burning moxa which is dried pulped mugwort. As part of TCM this technique has been studied and developed with great understanding of its benefits and also of the contraindications for its use. The FIR used by Mirilight closely mimics the same pattern as emitted by moxibustion.

Is Far Infrared Safe?

50% of daylight is Infrared. It does not cause sunburn or damage to skin which is associated with ultraviolet light from the opposite end of the light spectrum.

A significant proportion of the energy generated by your body is FIR which is why FIR treatment can be very boosting to the body.

FIR is not microwave as they come from a different point in the electromagnetic spectrum.

The Mirilight equipment is very safe, low wavelength FIR in the range of 4-20 microns, whereas microwaves are 1,000 microns to 1 metre wavelength.

Far Infrared (FIR) is not the same as near Infrared which is a shorter wavelength at 0.76-1.4 microns. The difference is that this shorter wavelength does not penetrate the body as deeply.

Much published scientific research is available showing safety and efficacy for FIR treatment for heart disease, weight loss, diabetes, rheumatic pain, circulatory disorders, nerve damage and other conditions. It is being used to treat heart disease in hospitals in Japan.

Infrared Saunas (which are found elsewhere) have many contraindications (due to high operating temperatures usually 48.9 - 60°C) making them unsuitable for many of the problems which Mirilight can safely help.

Most of the contraindications are directly related to the excessive heating effect upon the body so Mirilight only apply FIR light at Natural temperatures and with durations which ensure that the user temperature doesn’t rise above 41°C.
